Welcome

The Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority is the state licensing and credentialing board for addiction counselors and prevention professionals.  In Louisiana, the practice of most health care professions is licensed and regulated by appointed boards placed within the Department of Health and Hospitals. Therefore, the legislature hereby finds it appropriate that the responsibility and authority to regulate the practice of addictive disorder treatment and prevention be exercised by a licensing board created for that purpose. Throughout this website you will find the necessary information to obtain an ADRA credential.

ADRA Advantages

Treatment for addictive disorders vary, but we do know that most patients respond well to talk therapy and social support situations.  The process of recovery is often a long and difficult one, so it is important that addiction counselors and prevention professional have the skills to cultivate an enduring relationship with their patients.  ADRA credentialing ensures that all counselors specializing in addiction recovery and prevention have the necessary skills to treat diverse groups of patients by awarding our seal of accreditation only to those counselors who have exhibited excellence in their trade.  As a mental health specialist, earning ADRA's mark of distinction can open up a world of opportunities and professional advantages for you.

Revised Fee Schedule Effective July 28, 2019

  • ADRA Board meetings are held on the third Friday of the following months: January, April, July, and October.

  • ADRA has been working with Certemy to implement a new application processing portal.  All applications and renewals must be submitted through this portal.  Please note that it is your responsibility to maintain your practice credential.  The LA-ADRA board does not have the authority to waive any late fees, even during this transition process.  Please be sure to get your completed renewal submitted on or before your expiration date.  As always feel free to contact the ADRA office with any questions that you may have.

  • Important Notice on Education hours
    :

    • Substance abuse/Addiction Specific education hours are defined as only those hours obtained from courses/workshops/seminars that have the actual words “substance abuse” “addiction” “drug abuse” in the title of the course.

If it is not obvious to the ADRA that courses submitted by the applicant are addiction specific according to the definition outlined above, the burden of proof lies on the applicant.  He/she is required to submit a course syllabus that outlines the course content so that it can clearly be determined what portion of the course should be counted as addiction specific.

This information is to help you understand the concept of the substance abuse/addiction specific education that is required for testing applications, CIT applications and some CIT renewals (those that require the 180 in substance abuse education).  Please read and understand prior to submitting your application for processing to a) avoid processing delays and reduce processing time and b) avoid loss of application fees due to an incomplete application submission.
